HUMN285H - Classic Epic in Translation-Honors

Cross-listed as ENGL 285H. This course introduces the classical epics: the Iliad, Odyssey, and Aeneid. These great poems provide important views of ancient Greek and Roman culture, mythology, and civilization. Their influence ranges over thousands of years, from ancient epic and tragedy to a variety of modern and contemporary arts. As pillars in the western canon of great books, they remain a focus of literary theory and criticism today. Students in this course are required to participate in research and discussion. Open to students in the honors program or by instructor permission. Prerequisites: ENGL 102; RDNG 116 if required by placement testing. 3 Cr. (3 Lec.) Occasionally.
