HSTY235 - Medieval Europe 500-1500

This course surveys the major developments in Western European history in the era from the collapse of Rome until the age of Columbus. Special emphasis will focus upon the tangled relationship between church and state, the evolving lives of common people, and the development of systems of law, the economy and government. Special emphasis is placed on reading, interpreting, and discussing primary sources so students can comprehend the practice of historical research. HSTY 235 fulfills the SUNY General Education Western Civilization requirement. Prerequisites: ENGL 101; RDNG 116 if required by placement testing; prior completion or concurrent enrollment in MATH 090 if required by placement testing. 3 Cr. (3 Lec.) Occasionally.
